David Graham: Iconic Voice Actor of Beloved UK TV Shows Dies at 99
David Graham, the renowned voice actor known for his work on popular British television series such as “Thunderbirds” and “Peppa Pig,” has passed away at the age of 99. Graham’s career spanned decades, during which he lent his distinctive voice to a variety of beloved characters, leaving a lasting impact on the entertainment industry.
Born in London, Graham’s most iconic roles included the voice of Aloysius Parker in the “Thunderbirds,” a sci-fi series centered around the secret International Rescue organization. He also voiced characters like the Daleks in “Doctor Who,” captivating audiences with his portrayal of the infamous evil creatures.
Jamie Anderson, son of “Thunderbirds” creator Gerry Anderson, expressed his tribute on the social media platform X, describing Graham as a “legendary” actor. Anderson noted, “We will miss you dearly, David. Our thoughts are with David’s friends and family.”
Graham’s talents were not confined to “Thunderbirds.” He was also celebrated for voicing Grandpa Pig in the children’s show “Peppa Pig,” which introduced him to a new generation of young viewers. Additionally, he contributed voices to “Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom,” enhancing his reputation as a versatile performer.
His influence extended into live television, with on-screen appearances in series such as “Doctor Who,” “Coronation Street,” and “Casualty.” These roles were complemented by his participation in repertory theatre and his association with Lawrence Olivier’s company at the National Theatre.
Reflecting on his long career, Graham recalled the birth of Parker’s voice, crediting inspiration to a former butler to the Prince of Wales. He shared, “I just made him a bit more villainous. I’m not sure the guy ever knew – he might have demanded a royalty.”
In a statement, Jamie Anderson highlighted Graham’s contributions, saying, “Just a few weeks ago, I was with 2,000 Anderson fans at a Gerry Anderson concert in Birmingham where we sang him happy birthday – such a joyous occasion. And now, just a few weeks later, he’s left us.”
Graham reprised his role as Parker for the 2015 ITV remake “Thunderbirds Are Go!,” maintaining his connection to the series. His legacy as a quintessential voice actor in the UK is assured, with tributes underscoring his kindness, talent, and enduring influence in the world of television.
