Detroit Lions Sign Veteran Cornerback Arthur Maulet to Practice Squad

Detroit, MI — The Detroit Lions have signed veteran cornerback Arthur Maulet to their practice squad as they seek to bolster their secondary depth amid several injuries. The announcement came on October 8, 2025, from NFL Network reporter Cameron Wolfe.
Maulet, who is 32 years old, has played in the NFL for eight seasons after going undrafted in 2017. He began his career with the New Orleans Saints, where he mainly contributed on special teams, totaling seven appearances in his first two seasons. His career flourished during his time with the New York Jets from 2019 to 2020, where he featured in 23 games and made 11 starts, amassing seven pass deflections, two interceptions, 67 tackles, and one fumble recovery.
After his stint with the Jets, Maulet played two seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers and two more with the Baltimore Ravens. This offseason, he tried to secure a spot on the Houston Texans roster but was released before the final cuts.
The Lions are currently facing cornerback depth issues, with starters D.J. Reed and Terrion Arnold sidelined due to injuries. Reed is on injured reserve with a hamstring issue, while Arnold is dealing with a shoulder injury that thankfully does not require surgery and may see him return in about a month. Meanwhile, Khalil Dorsey has also been placed on injured reserve.
With only Amik Robertson, Rock Ya-Sin, and Avonte Maddox as healthy cornerbacks on their 53-man roster, the Lions are eager for additional support. Maulet will join other depth options like Erick Hallett, Trey Flowers, and Nick Whiteside in practice.
Head Coach Dan Campbell emphasized the importance of preparing the players positioned lower on the depth chart. “We give those guys a ton of reps,” Campbell said during his weekly radio interview, explaining how they work to ensure that all players, including those on the practice squad, are ready for meaningful games.
Maulet, standing at 5-foot-10 and weighing 190 pounds, brings experience in the nickel cornerback role, which should serve him well as he joins the Lions in a pivotal part of their season. Detroit has a challenging match against the Kansas City Chiefs coming up, and Maulet’s physical style of play may prove essential in that matchup.
