LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Disney‘s highly anticipated animated sequel, “Moana 2,” is now available to stream on video-on-demand platforms, following its record-breaking theatrical run that surpassed $1 billion globally. The film, which debuted in theaters on Thanksgiving weekend 2024, continues the adventures of Moana and Maui, voiced by Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson, respectively.

In “Moana 2,” Moana embarks on a perilous journey to the far seas of Oceania after receiving a call from her wayfinding ancestors. The film introduces new characters while bringing back fan favorites like Heihei, Chief Tui, Tala, and Sina. Disney describes the sequel as an adventure into “dangerous, long-lost waters,” offering a fresh challenge for the Polynesian heroine.

The film has grossed over $449 million domestically and $1 billion worldwide, making it the third Disney release of 2024 to achieve this milestone, following Marvel Studios‘ “Deadpool and Wolverine” and Pixar‘s “Inside Out 2.” Despite its box office success, “Moana 2” has received mixed reviews from critics, earning a 61% score on Rotten Tomatoes, compared to the original’s 95%. However, audiences have been more favorable, giving it an 86% rating.

As of January 28, 2025, “Moana 2” is available for purchase at $29.99 or rental at $24.99 on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, and Vudu. Renters have 30 days to start watching and 48 hours to finish once they begin. The film will also be released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on March 18, 2025. Fans can expect it to arrive on Disney+ in February 2025, following the studio’s typical three-month post-theatrical release window.

For those planning a movie marathon, the original “Moana” (2016) is available to stream on Disney+ or purchase on VOD platforms. The live-action remake of “Moana” is set for release in 2026, with Dwayne Johnson reprising his role as Maui, though Auli’i Cravalho will not return as Moana.

Disney World visitors can also immerse themselves in the world of Moana through the “Journey of Water” attraction at Epcot, which opened in 2023. The interactive experience features educational elements about the water cycle and opportunities to meet Moana in person.
