San Francisco, CA — The NFL has suspended 49ers offensive lineman Isaac Alarcón for the first six games of the 2025 season without pay after he violated the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances, the league announced Wednesday. Despite the suspension, Alarcón, 26, is permitted to engage in offseason practices, training camp, and preseason games until the ban takes effect.

Alarcón, who stands at 6-foot-7 and weighs 320 pounds, entered the NFL in 2020 as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys, part of the International Player Pathway Program. He has yet to appear in a regular-season game since starting his career with Dallas.

Prior to joining the 49ers in early 2024, Alarcón was placed on the Cowboys’ practice squad but was waived during final roster cuts in 2023. He signed a futures contract with the 49ers in January 2024 and was part of the team’s practice squad last season.

“Isaac has worked hard to make his way onto the roster, and we will support him during this time,” said a spokesperson for the San Francisco 49ers. Alarcón’s absence will impact the team’s depth along the offensive line as they prepare for the upcoming season.

The suspension, which will begin when the regular season kicks off, highlights ongoing concerns within the league regarding performance-enhancing drugs. NFL policy strictly prohibits the use of such substances, and players found in violation face tight disciplinary measures.

A native of Monterrey, Mexico, Alarcón had a promising football career at Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education before making the leap to the NFL. His international status has continued to provide unique opportunities to reduce the gap in talent diversity across the league.

As of now, Alarcón remains under contract with the 49ers, and team officials hope that he can regain his focus and contribute positively once his suspension concludes.

With this suspension, the 49ers will need to adjust their strategies, particularly on the offensive line, as they approach training camps ahead of the 2025 season. The outlook for Alarcón and his eventual return remains a point of interest among fans and analysts alike.
