Coldplay closed the Radio 1 Big Weekend at Stockwood Park in Luton with a set filled with fireworks, confetti, and flashing lights, mesmerizing the crowd with hits such as Viva La Vida and Yellow.

Other artists who graced the Main Stage throughout the day included Sabrina Carpenter, Vampire Weekend, and Olly Alexander, while the New Music Stage saw performances from beabadoobee, Olivia Dean, Teddy Swims, and CMAT.

The day experienced a mix of weather, starting with pouring rain during Sabrina Carpenter’s set but eventually bringing sunshine to the adoring fans. A highlight was Coldplay’s surprise performance of a new song dedicated to Luton Town Football Club, amusingly titled Orange.

AJ Tracey, the first Main Stage artist, expressed his delight at the opportunity to perform, indicating his gratitude towards the festival for still inviting him despite not releasing an album in almost four years.

Vampire Weekend, who wore Luton Town shirts, garnered big cheers from the crowd and delivered a decade’s worth of indie hits as promised during their set.

The three-day event saw around 100,000 music enthusiasts enjoying performances from various artists, including the likes of Chase & Status, Raye, Charli XCX, and more.

Justin Dealey, a presenter at BBC Three Counties radio, noted the special moment during Coldplay’s set, while attendees like Martina Skalecki and Bhajan shared their elation at the touching tribute paid to Luton by the band.
