Fire at Brandvlei Prison Contained in Cape Winelands
A fire at Brandvlei Prison in the Cape Winelands District Municipality has been successfully contained, according to officials. This incident is one of several fires that have occurred in the region since January.
The Cape Winelands District Municipality is currently conducting monitoring and mopping up operations to ensure the safety of the prison grounds. Anesca Roodt, a representative of the municipality, stated that although a small corrugated structure was destroyed, no further property damage was reported. Fire services from both the Cape Winelands and Breede Valley Municipalities collaborated to combat the blaze.
Efforts to extinguish a fire on the slopes of Bainskloof have also been successful in containment, while firefighting operations in Baviaanshoek and Matroosberg are ongoing. Roodt reported progress made throughout the night on the active fire line in Matroosberg, but it has yet to be fully contained. Fresh teams will continue their operations. In Baviaanshoek, active firefighting will continue throughout the day, with two firefighting vehicles and crews currently on scene.
