Cooper Hamilton Gws Giants

The Greater Western Sydney (GWS) GIANTS have announced the departure of 20-year-old wingman Cooper Hamilton after the club decided not to offer him a contract for the 2025 season. Hamilton joined the team through the 2021 Rookie Draft and participated in eight matches over the last three years.

Known for his exceptional endurance, Hamilton set a club record for the fastest 2km time trial. Initially playing as a defender, he transitioned to the wing position for more versatile contributions to the team. Besides his on-field role, Hamilton was recognized for his regular appearances in popular videos featured on the club’s social media platforms.

Jason McCartney, the GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, expressed gratitude for Hamilton’s services. “It’s always a tough time of the year when we need to say farewell to good people, but unfortunately, we didn’t have a list spot for Cooper moving forward,” said McCartney. “Cooper has been a great addition to our football program and must also be commended for his involvement within our industry-leading media team. We thank Cooper for his services to the club and wish him all the best for whatever is next.”

Hamilton was initially drafted from pick 12 and quickly became known as one of the elite runners within the team. His emergence in the squad added depth and resilience, proving beneficial during matches. Despite showing potential, he was unable to secure a place in the senior side for 2024, leading to the non-renewal of his contract.

Hamilton made a notable debut in Round Seven of 2022, securing 12 disposals and five tackles in a significant 59-point victory against Adelaide. As he continued to advance in his career, his performances in the 2023 season displayed promise, especially in a match against West Coast where he achieved 19 disposals and scored a goal. However, despite his efforts, he did not retain a position in the main team throughout 2024.
