Heavy Rainfall Hits Western Australia, Brings Weekend Weather Concerns
Western Australia has experienced significant rainfall, with the regions of Bunbury and Jandakot receiving the most substantial amounts overnight. Reports indicate that Bunbury was particularly affected, recording 18.2mm of rain. Meanwhile, Jandakot, located within the Perth metropolitan area, saw 12mm of rainfall.
The city of Perth enjoyed warm, clear conditions on Thursday, with temperatures reaching 28 degrees Celsius in Perth and 31 degrees Celsius in Midland. However, these conditions changed as dark clouds moved in, delivering widespread rainfall amounts between five and 10mm across the state.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), Friday is expected to be significantly cooler with a forecast high of 19 degrees Celsius and a ‘very high chance of showers’, particularly in the afternoon and evening. Daniel Hayes, the BOM community information officer, advised that the bulk of the rain is anticipated on Friday. “The main rain should come through on Friday and it probably won’t have too much of an impact on Saturday’s events,” Hayes stated.
The inclement weather arrives just ahead of the AFL grand final day on Saturday, where partly cloudy skies and the possibility of morning and early afternoon showers are expected. The weather is set to improve slightly over the following days, with forecasts indicating partly cloudy conditions on Sunday and temperatures rising from 20 degrees Celsius to 29 degrees Celsius by Tuesday as skies clear.
In addition to the rain, Weatherzone reports that parts of WA have already experienced substantial rainfall earlier this week due to a northwest cloudband, with some locations recording between 50 to 150mm. The region faces more adverse weather conditions over the weekend as a low-pressure system and cold front extend across Western Australia, supported by a separate trough bringing rain and thunderstorms to the north.
The approaching southerly change is expected to lower temperatures significantly, with daytime highs around 17 to 19 degrees Celsius, feeling much cooler due to strong winds. Nighttime temperatures are forecasted to drop to between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius.
Looking ahead, a temporary improvement in weather conditions is predicted from Sunday into early next week, with high-pressure systems bringing clear skies and warmer temperatures. However, early models predict that a significant low-pressure system might develop mid to late next week, potentially causing severe thunderstorms and additional rainfall across parts of the state.
