Hurricane Milton Triggers Tornado Outbreak in Florida
Strong winds and flying debris from Hurricane Milton have caused significant damage in Florida, particularly impacting areas such as Wellington and West Palm Beach. On October 9, 2024, the hurricane’s outer bands spawned a series of tornadoes, leaving behind a trail of destruction.
In the town of Wellington, the hometown of FOX Weather Meteorologist Steve Bender, an apparent tornado was sighted. Bender shared footage of the twister captured by his family. Images from West Palm Beach reveal debris scattered throughout neighborhoods, including a dramatic scene where a dumpster was found lodged into the roof of a home.
The tornadoes were part of a larger outbreak occurring as Hurricane Milton advanced and eventually made landfall in Florida as a Category 3 hurricane. Footage from Palm Beach Gardens captured one of the tornadoes tearing through the area, offering a vivid depiction of the severe weather conditions faced by residents.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue crews responded swiftly to numerous incidents related to the tornadoes in Wellington, Acreage, and Loxahatchee. According to fire rescue officials, at least 40 units were deployed during the tornado’s circulation, and they have confirmed they transported five patients to medical facilities and treated others at the scene.
