PARIS, France — Iga Świątek, Aryna Sabalenka, Tommy Paul, and Ben Shelton delivered stellar performances as the third round of the 2025 French Open kicked off at Roland Garros on May 30.
Top-seeded Sabalenka faced off against Serbia’s Olga Danilović on Court Philippe-Chatrier. After an impressive start, Sabalenka surged to a commanding 5-0 lead in the first set. However, Danilović rallied to break back but ultimately lost the opening set. The match remained competitive in the second set, showcasing Sabalenka’s dominance.
In her post-match comments, Sabalenka noted, “It doesn’t matter what the score sheet reads, I’m really happy for this win. I felt like I had a little more energy.” She solidified her position as one of the favorites for the title.
Zheng Qinwen, the Olympic champion, also advanced by defeating Canadian teen Victoria Mboko in straight sets. Zheng expressed her satisfaction after the match saying, “I handled the hot weather quite well… It was not an easy match.” She now looks forward to facing either Liudmila Samsonova or Dayana Yastremska in the next round.
Meanwhile, Świątek, the reigning champion, displayed her formidable skills with a decisive straight-sets victory over Emma Raducanu, emphasizing her smooth progression through the tournament. “Practicing really early helps on days off so I can spend the rest of the day chilling,” she explained, revealing her laid-back approach to maintaining focus.
On Court 14, Amanda Anisimova battled Clara Tauson, edging out an initial set win. Anisimova expressed relief at her performance, which included a critical tiebreaker win that set the stage for her potential run in the tournament.
