Injuries Plague Manchester United Ahead of Europa League Clash with Real Sociedad

Manchester, England — Manchester United will face a tough challenge on March 6 when they travel to Spain to take on Real Sociedad in the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie.
Following a disappointing exit from the FA Cup, the Red Devils find themselves in dire need of success in the Europa League, which is now their only shot at silverware this season. Heading into the matchup, United’s roster is severely depleted, compounded by injuries to key players.
United is expected to travel with only 18 players, as several stars, including Amad Diallo, Lisandro Martínez, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, Jonny Evans, Altay Bayındır, and Tom Heaton, remain sidelined due to injuries. United’s manager Ruben Amorim will be counting on a makeshift lineup to deliver a crucial victory against La Real.
“We need to change our fortunes,” Amorim said in a pre-match conference. “The Europa League is our last hope, and we have to fight hard for every inch.”
The Red Devils, who finished the league phase of the tournament unbeaten, will be aiming for a strong start against Real Sociedad, a team that recently faced its own challenges, losing 4-0 to Barcelona. Historically, United has performed well in San Sebastián, having won their last two visits to the stadium.
In goal, André Onana is expected to start, providing experience and leadership from the back. In defense, Matthijs de Ligt and Victor Lindelöf may partner with rising star Leny Yoro, who will make his 20th appearance for the club. Diogo Dalot will take the right wing-back position, while Patrick Dorgu, eligible to play despite recent disciplinary issues, will line up on the left.
The midfield will see veteran Christian Eriksen and Brazilian international Casemiro, who is eager to make an impact after recovering from injury. Bruno Fernandes will captain the side, looking to be a creative force against the Basque side, while Alejandro Garnacho could provide much-needed pace and freshness on the left flank.
Upfront, Joshua Zirkzee is likely to lead the attack, hoping to build on recent performances despite struggles to find the net. The unit’s chemistry will be tested, but Amorim remains hopeful that they can create chances against a disciplined Real Sociedad defense.
“We have to forget about our past disappointments and focus on what’s ahead,” Zirkzee stated. “This is a crucial match for us, and we need to give our all.”
As Manchester United navigates through this turbulent phase, the Everton Park matchup is deemed crucial not only for their European ambitions but also for restoring some of the confidence lost during a tumultuous season.
