Jimmy Mccain Endorsing Kamala Harris

Jimmy McCain, the son of the late Republican Senator John McCain, has publicly endorsed Vice-President Kamala Harris following a recent controversy surrounding Donald Trump‘s visit to Arlington National Cemetery.

Mr. McCain characterized Trump’s visit last week to the military burial site as “a violation”. The Army has claimed that a member of Trump’s staff pushed aside an Arlington employee who was attempting to inform them about the rules against filming in the cemetery.

The Trump campaign has responded by asserting that they had received permission from the families of fallen service members to film during an event intended to honor U.S. soldiers who lost their lives during the American withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

In an interview with CNN‘s Jake Tapper, Mr. McCain stated, “Show respect and leave. It doesn’t need to be videoed.” He emphasized that the purpose of Arlington Cemetery is to pay respect to those who have sacrificed their lives for the country, and that politicizing the location undermines that respect.

Mr. McCain, who has recently switched his voter registration to Democrat, announced his intention to support Kamala Harris for president in the upcoming November election. He expressed his belief that Harris and Tim Walz represent a group of individuals capable of improving the nation.

As a testament to his family’s legacy, Jimmy McCain noted that three generations of the McCain family are interred at Arlington Cemetery. Federal regulations explicitly prohibit the use of the cemetery for political campaigning.

The Trump campaign has contested the Army’s account and released a statement from Gold Star military families who had invited Trump to the site, maintaining that his visit was to honor the sacrifices of their relatives.

Notably, tensions between Trump and the late Senator McCain have been longstanding, with Trump having previously criticized McCain’s status as a war hero during his presidential campaign.

Jimmy McCain is not alone in his opposition to Trump. His sister Meghan McCain has stated that she will not support either Trump or Harris, affirming her dedication to the Republican Party while expressing hope for a better political future.
