Joey Votto Emerges as Top TV Analyst Prospect for MLB
Cincinnati, OH – Longtime Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto is gaining attention as a top candidate for MLB’s new lineup of television analysts. This expanded group now includes major networks like ESPN, Fox, TBS, NBC, and Netflix, according to a report from Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports.
Votto joined announcers John Sadak and Barry Larkin in the broadcast booth for several games late in the 2022 season. His appearances were well-received, showcasing his insights and charisma, particularly after he underwent season-ending surgery in August of that year.
In August 2024, Votto is expected to return to Toronto for a series finale against the Blue Jays, marking a significant moment in his career as it takes place in his hometown. Over his 17 seasons with the Reds, Votto posted a batting average of .294 and hit 356 home runs, leading the league in on-base percentage seven times.
In September 2022, during a game at Great American Ball Park, a fan named Abe Hils, who had previously caught a Votto home run, made an impressive catch of a foul ball. Hils celebrated in a manner reminiscent of Jamie Tartt, a character from the show “Ted Lasso” on Apple TV+. Votto humorously suggested that Hils should take over Jim Day’s role as a reporter.
That same month, Votto made headlines again by wearing a Barry Larkin jersey during a broadcast, interacting with fans and taking pictures, further endearing himself to the Reds’ fan base.
