Jude Law Confirms ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Movies Are on Hold as Harry Potter Franchise Shifts to TV
In a recent interview with Variety, actor Jude Law revealed that the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ movie series, a prequel to the ‘Harry Potter‘ franchise, is currently “certainly on hold.”
Law, who portrayed a younger version of Albus Dumbledore in the series, expressed that he has not heard of any upcoming projects related to the franchise. He speculated that Warner Bros. might be redirecting their energy towards the upcoming ‘Harry Potter’ television series instead.
The ‘Fantastic Beasts’ series, which was intended to consist of five films according to author J.K. Rowling, has seen its last installment with 2022’s ‘The Secrets of Dumbledore.’ Filmmaker David Yates, who directed the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ movies, also mentioned in October 2023 that the series was “just parked” with no immediate plans for its continuation.
Eddie Redmayne, who played the wizard Newt Scamander in the films, echoed similar sentiments, stating that as far as he knows, the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ series has concluded.
However, fans of the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise have something to look forward to, as Warner Bros. is currently casting for a new ‘Harry Potter’ television series. The casting call, which closed on October 31, sought children to portray the main characters Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley. The TV series is expected to premiere in late 2026 or early 2027.
