ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Justice Haynes, the Alabama transfer running back for the Michigan Wolverines, is having an exceptional start to the 2025 season. As of September 18, Haynes leads the team with 388 rushing yards on 49 carries and five touchdowns, ranking fifth in the nation.

Through three games, Haynes has reached over 100 rushing yards in each appearance, showcasing his talent. Despite his success, Haynes maintains a humble perspective. “I don’t pay attention to that at all,” he said when asked about his accolades. “I try to stay away from all that as much as possible. I don’t try to get too high with the highs, too low with the lows.”

His approach highlights a strong focus on consistency and hard work. “I just put in the work each and every day and let the chips fall where they fall,” Haynes noted, sharing that he keeps high expectations for himself.

Interim head coach Biff Poggi praised Haynes’s competitive nature and athleticism. “He’s ultra-competitive,” Poggi said. “He wants the football, and you want him to have the football as a coach. He’s one of the top backs in the country.”

Fellow running back Jordan Marshall echoed the importance of teamwork. “I’m a team guy,” Marshall said. “Whatever I can do to help this team win is what I’m going to do.” His sentiments reflect a collaborative atmosphere within the Wolverines, as both players support one another’s success.

When discussing their future matchup against Nebraska, Haynes emphasized the challenge posed by the Cornhuskers’ disciplined defense. “We’re looking forward to the challenge. It should be very fun,” he said.

Haynes, who believes the Big Ten is currently the best football conference, expressed excitement about the competition ahead. “I’m looking forward to the challenge,” he reiterated.

As for his quarterback, Haynes mentioned the added complexity he brings to defenses. “He could do those types of things, which is another threat that the defense has to defend,” he said, underscoring Underwood’s ability to run as a dynamic option.

Haynes is also grateful for the acceptance he and other transfers have received from the Wolverines. “The whole team has accepted all of us transfers, and it’s been truly a blessing and the best decision I ever made,” he said.

As the season progresses, Haynes looks to continue his success while maintaining balance as a player. “As the game goes on, I pick up on tendencies that help me make reads,” he said, highlighting the mental aspect of his game.
