Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Reopens After Multi-Vehicle Crash

METAIRIE, La. — The northbound span of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway reopened at 3:36 p.m. on October 3, 2025, after a multi-vehicle crash earlier in the afternoon.
The incident occurred at mile marker 21.5, prompting Causeway officials to close the bridge to traffic for safety reasons. According to Causeway General Manager Carlton Dufrechou, three vehicles were involved in the collision.
A notice was sent out at 2:22 p.m. informing drivers of the closure, which lasted for several hours. Dufrechou stated the situation was critical enough to warrant immediate action to ensure public safety.
Despite the reopening of the bridge, officials warned that traffic delays might still linger in the area due to the earlier closure. No injuries were reported following the accident, but the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
As drivers return to the bridge, they are advised to stay cautious and expect gradual traffic flow. The Causeway management will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
