Dwight Howard Lakers Season Opener 2025

LOS ANGELES, California – The Los Angeles Lakers will kick off their 2025-26 season on Tuesday, facing their rival Golden State Warriors. This game marks the first of 82 in what promises to be a significant season for the Lakers.

The team hopes to start strong at home. With the tip-off just hours away, former Lakers center Dwight Howard, a Hall of Famer, shared encouraging words for the team.

Howard had three separate stints with the Lakers, first joining in the 2012-13 season. After being traded from the Orlando Magic, he battled through a major back surgery but teamed up effectively with Kobe Bryant, another Hall of Famer. His time in LA included a mix of successes and setbacks.

After his initial season, Howard spent six years playing for various teams before returning to the Lakers for the 2019-20 season. That year proved crucial for him, as he played a vital role as the backup center, helping the Lakers secure their 17th championship.

He returned once more for the 2021-22 season, which did not go as well, but he fulfilled his role effectively. In September, Howard was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, closing a remarkable career as one of the best big men of the modern era.

During his time with the Lakers, Howard played in 205 games, averaging 10.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. While his earlier years in Los Angeles faced criticism, he is now celebrated by fans.

The Lakers are poised to chase their 18th title, starting with Tuesday’s contest against the Warriors.
