Lee Corso College Gameday Retirement Announcement

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Lee Corso, one of college football’s most recognized voices, is set to retire this summer after nearly four decades with ESPN. The network announced the news on Thursday, revealing that Corso’s final appearance on “College GameDay” will occur shortly after his 90th birthday on August 30.

Corso joined ESPN in 1987, building a legacy that includes memorable moments and the iconic headgear picks segment, where he selects game winners using mascot heads. He boasts a record of 286 wins and 144 losses in predictions and has favored the Ohio State Buckeyes more than any other team over the years.

In a statement, Corso expressed gratitude, stating, “My family and I will be forever indebted for the opportunity to be part of ESPN and College GameDay for nearly 40 years. I have a treasure of many friends, fond memories and some unusual experiences to take with me into retirement.”

ESPN noted that Corso’s departure would be honored with additional programming around his final weekend on-air. This farewell weekend will feature several exciting college football matchups, including games like LSU at Clemson and Alabama at Florida State.

Corso’s contributions to college football and broadcasting were recognized by “Sporting News” magazine in 2001, which named him the 17th most influential person in the sport. His role on “College GameDay” has helped the show earn nine Sports Emmys and has significantly shaped the landscape of college football coverage.
