Mike Holmgren Packers Hall Of Fame

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has announced that former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike Holmgren has advanced to the next stage of the selection process for the Class of 2025. One coach from the list of nominees will be selected as a finalist for enshrinement in the prestigious Hall.

The nine-member Coach Blue-Ribbon Committee of the Hall has reduced an initial list of 14 nominees to the likes of Bill Arnsparger, Tom Coughlin, Jeff Fisher, Alex Gibbs, Chuck Knox, Richie Petitbon, Dan Reeves, Marty Schottenheimer, George Seifert, Mike Shanahan, Clark Shaughnessy, and Holmgren himself. Each committee member is set to cast an additional ballot later in the month, cutting down the list to nine semifinalists. The results of these ballots will be disclosed in roughly two weeks.

Holmgren took the helm as the Packers’ head coach from 1992 to 1998. During his tenure, he led the team to their first Super Bowl victory in nearly three decades by claiming the Super Bowl XXXI title. His overall winning percentage stands at .670 in the regular season, a figure surpassed only by legendary coach Vince Lombardi in team history.

Holmgren furthered his career as the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks from 1999 to 2008, taking them to a Super Bowl appearance. His influence on the field extended beyond victories, grooming future successful coaches, including Andy Reid and Jon Gruden, into Super Bowl winners.

Other notable nominees for the Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025 include Tom Coughlin, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the New York Giants, and Mike Shanahan, known for his back-to-back titles as head coach of the Denver Broncos. Coughlin led the Giants to unexpected victories over the New England Patriots, further cementing his legacy.

George Seifert, with four Super Bowl titles during his career as a coach and defensive coordinator, and Marty Schottenheimer, who secured 200 regular-season wins, are also vying for the spot as a finalist. A variety of other candidates known for their contributions both as head and assistant coaches complete the list.

The committee will ultimately submit one coaching candidate to the full selection committee for final consideration early next year. The selection process involves a rigorous voting mechanism, where a majority is needed for enshrinement into the Hall.
