Sydney Metro City To Revolutionize Commuter Experience With August Opening

Sydney Metro City is set to revolutionize the commuter experience as it gears up for an anticipated opening in August, marking a significant milestone in the city’s transportation network.

Under the leadership of Premier Chris Minns and Transport Minister Jo Haylen, the full-service timetable trial run has commenced, offering faster and more efficient trips for commuters traveling across Sydney.

The new metro line will connect major hubs such as Chatswood, Sydney CBD, and Sydenham, cutting travel times and providing a seamless journey for passengers.

The extensive testing and commissioning process, which began in April 2023, has seen approximately 9800 hours of testing completed along the 51.5km line from Tallawong to Sydenham, ensuring the infrastructure meets the highest standards.

Once operational, the Sydney Metro City service will offer record travel times, with key routes including Martin Place to Waterloo in six minutes, Sydenham to Macquarie University in 33 minutes, Central to Chatswood in 15 minutes, and North Sydney’s Victoria Cross to Barangaroo in just three minutes.

Following the city service launch, the next phase of the project will see an extension of services from Sydenham to Bankstown, resulting in the temporary closure of the T3 Bankstown Line for a 12-month conversion period to deliver enhanced metro services every four minutes during peak hours upon reopening in 2025.
