Edmonton Oilers Vs Chicago Blackhawks 2025

The Edmonton Oilers wrap up their four-game road trip with a high-stakes matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center on Saturday night. The Oilers, coming off a 5-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins, aim to rebound and maintain their position in the competitive Pacific Division standings.

Thursday’s game against the Penguins saw the Oilers fall behind early, conceding four goals in the first period. Despite a strong pushback led by Leon Draisaitl, who scored twice, and Connor McDavid, who tallied three assists, the Oilers couldn’t overcome the deficit. Head Coach Kris Knoblauch acknowledged the team’s lack of readiness, stating, ‘We weren’t ready. They outworked us and outskated us. Attention to detail wasn’t there.’

Draisaitl continues to dominate the NHL, leading the league with 31 goals and sitting second in points with 61. His linemate, Vasily Podkolzin, praised Draisaitl’s impact, saying, ‘Crazy. Crazy. I got lucky that I’m [playing] with him right now.’ Meanwhile, defenseman Ty Emberson emphasized the importance of confidence and decision-making as he grows into his role with the team.

The Blackhawks, on the other hand, are struggling this season with a 14-26-2 record. Despite a recent 5-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wings, rookie sensation Connor Bedard extended his point streak to nine games, bringing him within one point of 100 in his young career. Bedard previously shone against the Oilers in their first meeting this season, contributing a goal and two assists in a 5-2 victory.

Goaltending remains a concern for the Oilers, with Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard both posting identical .898 save percentages this season. Skinner, however, has been strong in bounce-back games, winning his last eight starts following losses. The Blackhawks are likely to start Arvid Soderblom in net after Petr Mrazek played on Friday.

With both teams looking to end their road trips on a high note, the game promises to be a thrilling contest. The Oilers currently sit third in the Pacific Division, tied with the Los Angeles Kings at 53 points, while the Blackhawks are near the bottom of the Central Division.
