As the Election Commission declared the results for the 13 assembly seats subjected to bypolls, the spotlight fell on the Opposition’s INDIA bloc which emerged as a major gainer with victories in 10 seats. On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to secure victories in only two constituencies while an Independent candidate clinched one seat. The elections, which took place in states including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, and West Bengal, highlighted a significant shift in voter sentiment.

In West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee‘s Trinamool Congress (TMC) swept the bypolls, securing victories in all four Assembly seats where elections were held. The state witnessed a substantial voter turnout, with Raiganj being the highest at 67.12%. Similarly, Uttarakhand saw two crucial victories for the Congress party, propelling hopes for a political turnover in the state under veteran leader Harish Rawat’s leadership.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge noted that the results serve as a considerable blow to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, indicating a decline in the BJP’s political credibility. With the backing of the people, the opposition INDIA alliance is moving forward with momentum, while the ruling BJP is encountering obstacles.

Meanwhile, in Punjab’s Jalandhar West Assembly bypoll, the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) candidate Mohinder Bhagat emerged victorious by a remarkable margin of over 37,000 votes, solidifying the party’s position in the region. In Himachal Pradesh, the Congress party triumphed in two out of the three seats up for grabs, marking a significant achievement amidst intense competition from the BJP.

Other key wins include the DMK‘s successful lead in Tamil Nadu’s Vikravandi constituency and an Independent candidate securing the Rupauli seat in Bihar. These bypolls have set the stage for future political dynamics in states like Dehra, Hamirpur, and Nalagarh, each witnessing notable voter turnouts and decisive results.
