Star Mooseheads Player Jordan Dumais Suspended After DUI Arrest
Halifax Mooseheads star forward Jordan Dumais has been suspended for five games by the team following his arrest earlier this month for driving under the influence.
The Mooseheads issued a statement this morning stating that Dumais had ‘violated the code of conduct of the QMJHL and the team’.
‘The QMJHL and the Mooseheads expect exemplary behavior from their players, both on and off the ice. As this incident occurred off the ice, the matter was handled internally while the team remained in constant communication with the league,’ the club added.
Dumais’ suspension began during Thursday’s game against the Charlottetown Islanders. He will miss the remainder of the season as well as the first playoff game.
According to reports by Global News, 19-year-old Dumais was arrested in Halifax on March 1st while driving his vehicle around 2:20 am. Police officers reportedly observed signs of intoxication from the driver and subsequently made the arrest.
The QMJHL views Dumais’ actions as a mistake considering his age and has taken the necessary disciplinary measures.
Dumais, a third-round pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2022 NHL Draft, was crowned the QMJHL’s Player of the Year in 2023 after a stellar season where he led the league in scoring with 140 points.
His agent, Allain Roy, had not responded to inquiries from La Presse at the time of publication.
Dumais is set to appear in court at a later date to face charges related to driving under the influence.
The Mooseheads and the league are closely monitoring the situation and will support Dumais as he navigates through this incident.
