Texas State University Campus Protest And Football Game

Texas State University has been at the center of two significant events in the past 48 hours, highlighting both the challenges and triumphs of the institution.

On the academic and social front, Texas State University President Kelly Damphousse condemned the actions of two men who brought homophobic and misogynistic signs to the San Marcos campus the day after the 2024 elections. In a letter to the campus community, Damphousse characterized the messages as “disgusting” and emphasized that such hate is not welcome on campus. The men, who were not affiliated with the university, were escorted off campus after drawing a large crowd of counter-protesters.

In a separate development, the Texas State University football team celebrated a dominant victory over the University of Louisiana-Monroe. The Bobcats broke a two-game losing streak with a 38-17 win at Malone Stadium in Monroe, Louisiana. Redshirt senior quarterback Jordan McCloud started the game but was taken out to avoid re-irritating an injury, while true freshman quarterback Brad Jackson stepped in and had a standout performance with 17 carries for 126 yards and two touchdowns. Redshirt senior running back Deion Hankins also contributed significantly with a 47-yard run and a touchdown, helping the Bobcats secure their third win in the Sun Belt Conference.

The athletic victory has boosted the team’s morale and kept their bowl game hopes alive. The Bobcats are now in third place in the Sun Belt Conference West and will face Southern Mississippi in their next game on November 16 at Jim Wacker Field at UFCU Stadium.
