Thrilling Semi-Final: Jadeja’s Dismissal Puts Australia in Trouble

Dubai, UAE – In a nail-biting semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2025, India faced off against Australia at the Dubai International Stadium on March 4. The match has seen intense competition, building on critical moments that could swing the outcome for either team.
Australia captain Steve Smith, visibly upset, expressed his discontent towards umpires Chris Gaffaney and Richard Illingworth during a tense phase in the innings when Ravindra Jadeja restricted Marnus Labuschagne‘s movement. The incident occurred during the 21st over when Smith attempted to punch the ball towards Labuschagne, only for Jadeja to impede his path, prompting frustration from the Australian skipper.
Replays indicated the possibility of the ball striking Labuschagne’s bat as it ricocheted toward Rohit Sharma at mid-wicket. Commentary from former England captain Nasser Hussain highlighted the tension, noting, “There was a hug right there at the end, Smith not happy with Jadeja stopping Labuschagne.”
As the game progressed, Jadeja notably dismissed Labuschagne for 29, marking the fourth time Labuschagne has fallen to Jadeja’s bowling in ODIs. This dismissal came as Jadeja’s delivery drifted towards the leg stump, only to catch Labuschagne on the pads, leading to a straightforward LBW call from umpire Illingworth.
Labuschagne, after briefly discussing the decision with Smith, chose not to take a review. In a critical moment for Australia, Jadeja then took the wicket of Josh Inglis, leaving the team in dire straits at 102/4 after 27 overs.
Having won the toss, Smith elected to bat first. The Australian team, looking to make an impact in their first match in Dubai during this tournament, made two changes to their lineup, bringing in Tanveer Sangha and Cooper Connolly. In contrast, India stuck with their previous match lineup against New Zealand.
Mohammed Shami opened the bowling for India, claiming the first wicket by dismissing Connolly for a duck. Although Travis Head initially found his rhythm, scoring 39 runs, he succumbed to Varun Chakaravarthy’s bowling shortly before Jadeja wreaked havoc on the Australian innings.
With India applying consistent pressure on the Australian batsmen, the strategic changes made by captain Rohit Sharma proved fruitful. Each twist in this gripping contest brings the possibility of victory closer for either side, with the tension building as the match unfolds.
