Ravindra Jadeja India South Africa Test

Kolkata, India — The first Test between India and South Africa has turned into a bowler’s duel at Eden Gardens, where 26 wickets fell by stumps on day two. India ended the day with a 30-run lead over South Africa, who are struggling at 93/7 in their second innings.

The match has been dominated by unpredictable bounce on the pitch, leaving batters unsure if they should play forward or stay back. Each delivery poses a challenge, resulting in cautious batting displays.

In their first innings, India scored 189, trailing South Africa’s first innings total of 159. However, India’s innings suffered a setback when skipper Shubman Gill had to retire hurt after just three balls due to a neck spasm. He did not return for the remainder of the day, leaving India effectively at 3/79 after losing Washington Sundar as well.

After India took the lead, South Africa began their second innings intent on erasing that deficit. However, they quickly faced difficulties against India’s spin attack, particularly from Ravindra Jadeja, who claimed four wickets for just 19 runs.

South Africa’s struggle was exemplified by Tristan Stubbs‘ dismissal, where Jadeja’s delivery moved unexpectedly, cleaning up Stubbs’ off stump and showcasing the confusion plaguing South African batters.

Despite the challenge, Temba Bavuma emerged as South Africa’s standout performer, holding the innings together with 29 not out as the team continues to fight back in a low-scoring contest.

As day two concluded, the match remains intensely competitive, with the trajectory of the Test hinging on which team can adapt to the challenging conditions.
