Paul Goldschmidt Yankees Alds 2025

NEW YORK — The New York Yankees‘ 2025 postseason ended in disappointment as they lost to the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 4 of the American League Division Series on October 8. Paul Goldschmidt, who joined the Yankees last December, shared his thoughts about the team’s performance and his future after the game.

With the Yankees trailing by one run in the seventh inning, Jazz Chisholm Jr. made a costly error that allowed two runs to score. This misstep symbolized the Yankees’ struggles throughout the season, as they fell short once again in the playoffs.

“Once again, it comes down to the little things,” outfielder Aaron Judge said. Judge, who led the team with 53 home runs during the regular season, reflected on the team’s overall inconsistency that ultimately led to their early exit.

Despite the disappointing result, Goldschmidt’s contributions were notable. The 38-year-old finished the season strong, hitting .990 OPS in limited postseason opportunities. “I think I’d like to continue playing, but I hadn’t sat down and thought about it,” he said, hinting at his uncertainty regarding the future.

Goldschmidt’s steady presence was appreciated by teammates, with Judge highlighting his leadership qualities. “He’s the best that I’ve ever been around,” Judge expressed, underscoring Goldschmidt’s role in the clubhouse.

The Yankees, who had high hopes for a deep postseason run after finishing the regular season at 94-68, face a crossroads as they consider roster changes for 2026. Several key players, including Goldschmidt, are uncertain about their returns, while the team prepares for offseason decisions regarding free agents and player options.

The season’s end brought a mix of introspection and hope for players, with Judge expressing a desire to return stronger next year. “I want to get back out there right now. I wish Spring Training was in a couple of weeks,” he said, focused on the opportunity ahead.
