Dre Greenlaw Ejected for Headbutting Helmetless Ernest Jones as 49ers Lead Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks face the 49ers on October 11 at Lumen Field as part of Week 5 of the 2026 NFL season. Kickoff is set for 1:25 p. m. PT. Here’s what local and national media are predicting:

The Seahawks can’t afford to fall two games behind the 49ers. And Seattle vividly remembers losing at home to San Francisco last year. The hungover Seahawks have a lot they’re still trying to figure out — they tried to sign Joe Mixon until they remembered about the physical — while the 49ers are footloose and carefree despite a staggering number of injuries again. They have a lot of new (and old) pieces that weren’t on hand for last year’s playoff massacre in Seattle. Mike Evans, Deebo Samuel, Dre Greenlaw and Osa Odighizuwa do enough to get the win (or a 3-point loss and a push).

This is an enormous division game that will be a physical war, as they always are between these two. The 49ers are undefeated, but this is a tough road test. The Seahawks are the healthier team, but the 49ers have played better. The 49ers have played well in Seattle, but I think the Seattle defense will come up big late to win it.

The 49ers lead the Seahawks 14-10, but they will have to play the rest of the game without linebacker Dre Greenlaw. Greenlaw was ejected with 6:04 remaining when he headbutted a helmetless Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV on the sideline. Greenlaw forced Sam Darnold out of bounds after a 5-yard scramble, putting him in the middle of the Seahawks sideline. Jones said something to Greenlaw, who headbutted Jones. The 15-yard penalty moved the Seahawks to the San Francisco 32. Greenlaw was ejected during a Dec. 3, 2023, game against the Eagles when he scuffled with Eagles chief security officer Dom DiSandro. Last week, the NFL fined Greenlaw $11,941 for taunting the Broncos’ sideline.
