Huzhou, China — Slovenian tennis player Veronika Erjavec continued her impressive run in the WTA 125 series, reaching the finals after winning her semifinal match. On Sunday, she will compete in the finals after dominating Russian player Anastasia Gasanova with a score of 6-0, 6-2.

As the third seed in the tournament with a prize pool of €98,000, Erjavec has shown remarkable skill, advancing to the finals without losing a single set. In just over an hour, she managed to drop only two games against Gasanova, currently ranked 235th in the world. She had previously overwhelmed Japanese player Kiyoka Okamura in the quarterfinals with another decisive score of 6-0, 6-2.

The 25-year-old will face Alina Charaeva of Russia, who is ranked 159th, in the finals. Charaeva reached the finals by defeating French player Carole Monnet without any significant challenges. This final marks Erjavec’s third individual final appearance in her career, alongside her previous finals, including one in Ljubljana this week.

With her recent win in Changsha, Erjavec aims for her first WTA 125 title. Success in Huzhou could elevate her into the top 100 for the first time in her career. Currently, she holds the 119th spot in the WTA rankings, and a victory could push her to 99th, depending on the performances of other players this week.

Earlier in the day, Erjavec also competed in the doubles semifinal alongside Kazakhstan’s Zhibek Kulambayeva. They secured their place in the finals by defeating French player Estelle Cascino and Chinese player Feng Shuo 7-6 (3), 6-1.

The rankings are not final yet, as results from nearby tournaments will impact her standing. However, if the current results hold, Erjavec could feasibly crack the top 100 ranking following the final.
