Nashville, Tennessee – Actors Tyler Lepley and Serayah discussed their upcoming film, ‘Ruth & Boaz,’ during an interview with Movieguide®. The movie, releasing on Netflix September 26, offers a modern adaptation of the biblical tale of Ruth and Boaz.

Serayah shared that she was drawn to the project because it presents a fresh perspective on an age-old story. ‘I liked that it felt fresh and new. That’s exactly what attracted me to it,’ she said.

In this version, Ruth, played by Serayah, leaves her music career in Atlanta and moves to a small town in Tennessee with her late boyfriend’s mother. While working at a vineyard, she meets Boaz, portrayed by Lepley, who falls for her. As Ruth navigates her past, she also learns to embrace love and faith.

‘I was like, oh my God, Ruth and Boaz… but then she’s performing at the club, and I’m like, wait a minute. Where are we going with this?’ Serayah recalled, finding the project both surprising and engaging.

Interestingly, Lepley and Serayah had previously starred as brother and sister in a horror film before auditioning for this project. ‘I remember passing her in the lobby from the other movie. It was like, all right, I’ll see y’all in a minute,’ Lepley said.

In addition to Lepley and Serayah, the film features established stars like Phylicia Rashad and Babyface. ‘It’s kind of a pinch me moment,’ Serayah admitted, expressing enthusiasm about working with such prominent figures.

Lepley noted the graciousness of their co-stars, stating, ‘You don’t have to talk about life in between scenes when you’re Phylicia Rashad. It was a blessing to share that space with them.’

One standout moment for the cast was observing Babyface transition into acting. ‘He was open to direction from the director, and watching him find his footing as an actor was great. That was a lot of fun,’ Lepley said.

The film is produced by Tyler Perry and DeVon Franklin, who share a vision of spreading positivity through storytelling. ‘I think in this polarizing world… we both share the common goal of wanting to spread some good,’ Perry noted.

‘Ruth & Boaz’ promises to blend themes of love, faith, and personal growth, offering viewers a contemporary take on a beloved biblical story.
