COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 19-year-old student from The Ohio State University was found dead inside the Ohio Stadium on Friday morning. The university identified the student as William Meyers, who was from Fairfield, Connecticut.

Ben Johnson, a spokesperson for Ohio State, said in an email that foul play is not suspected and that there is no ongoing threat to the campus community. The university did not disclose the cause of death, stating it is still under investigation.

Columbus Fire Department received a call at 9:56 a.m. regarding the incident. Emergency responders, including Ohio State police, arrived at the northeast side of the stadium near Woody Hayes Drive and Tuttle Park Place. A large area surrounding where the body was found was secured with perimeter tape for investigation.

Authorities began breaking down the crime scene shortly after noon. As of September 26, 2025, the area remained cordoned off as investigators worked to determine the circumstances of the death.

Ohio State’s administration extended its condolences, stating, “Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.” Counseling Services are available for students who may need support, accessible through a university hotline.

This incident occurs more than a year after a tragic event at the same stadium when a 53-year-old woman reportedly died by suicide during a spring commencement ceremony. The ongoing attention to mental health and student support remains vital amid these events.
