Kyrie Irving Urges Patience During ACL Recovery Process

Dallas, Texas — Kyrie Irving, the star guard for the Dallas Mavericks, is asking fans for patience as he recovers from ACL surgery. During a recent Twitch stream, Irving emphasized there is no specific timeline for his return to the court, stating, “There’s no timetable for when I’m coming back, so please don’t ask me when I’m coming back.”
Irving, who tore his ACL in March, interrupted questions about his recovery progress, saying, “Please don’t badger me with all the questions like, ‘Hey, if you’re healthy by November, what do you think about it?’” He made it clear that he wants to take all necessary steps to ensure a full recovery.
The 33-year-old expressed his gratitude for fan support during this challenging time, acknowledging the uncertainty surrounding his injury. “I appreciate you guys being there to support me during my, uh, kind of down times,” Irving said. He reflected on the doubts he faced during his rehabilitation but mentioned being motivated by the next generation of athletes.
Coach Jason Kidd remarked at media day that while Irving is “doing quite well,” he is not “ahead of schedule.” The average recovery period for an NBA player recovering from an ACL injury typically ranges from nine to 12 months. This timeline suggests Irving could return to action as early as December or January.
The Mavericks are preparing for the upcoming regular season without their key offensive player. While they have signed D'Angelo Russell to help fill the void, the team lacks a reliable ball-handler without Irving. Rookie Cooper Flagg is expected to take on significant ball-handling duties in Irving’s absence.
Irving’s future contributions to the team remain critical if the Mavericks hope to compete effectively in a challenging Western Conference. “I feel like that will, in turn, spark the next brain or inspire the next person,” he added, speaking of hope for others dealing with similar challenges.
