OpenAI Unveils In-Chat App Integration within ChatGPT

San Francisco, CA
OpenAI has announced a new feature enabling the integration of third-party apps directly within ChatGPT, aiming to enhance user interaction and productivity. The introduction took place during the company’s Dev Day event on October 6, 2025.
During a live demo, an OpenAI employee illustrated the new capability by requesting Canva to create a promotional poster for a dog-walking business. The employee also generated a pitch deck based on the poster. In another example, a Zillow request produced an interactive map showcasing homes for sale in Pittsburgh. This feature aims to simplify task completion by allowing users to interact seamlessly with various applications.
Initial app partners include well-known services such as Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Expedia, Figma, Spotify, and Zillow. OpenAI plans to expand the app offerings later this year with companies like DoorDash and Target. Currently, these apps are accessible to users in the US on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans, while support for European users is forthcoming.
OpenAI is encouraging developers to utilize the new Software Development Kit (SDK), allowing them to build and launch interactive in-chat applications. The SDK provides tools for designing app logic and user interfaces, while also supporting integration with existing systems. Developers can begin testing apps immediately in Developer Mode.
OpenAI’s VP of Education, Leah Belsky, highlighted Coursera’s involvement as a learning partner, stating, “Some of the best learning happens when human expertise and AI work together.” Users can now request Coursera content directly within ChatGPT, making learning resources more accessible.
With an increase in user engagement, OpenAI reports over 800 million weekly users of ChatGPT, alongside more than four million developers active on the platform. The company continues to lead in the AI space, adapting to enhance user experiences as technological needs evolve.
As the integration of these third-party apps progresses, OpenAI aims to provide a comprehensive directory for users to discover new applications and further enhance their ChatGPT experience.
