PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 in a critical National League Division Series (NLDS) matchup on Wednesday, marked by a dismal eighth inning that saw the game slip away.

Manager Dave Roberts faced scrutiny after the game, particularly regarding the absence of reliever Tanner Scott, who was away for personal reasons. “He was not at the ballpark today. There was something going on personal. And it’ll come out later. But he was completely unavailable,” Roberts explained.

The game took a turn in the fourth inning, with the Dodgers holding a 3-1 lead thanks to a home run from Tommy Edman. However, the Phillies responded with three runs in the same inning, pushing Dodgers’ starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto out of the game after he allowed two singles to start the fifth. Anthony Banda came in and managed to escape the fifth without additional damage.

Future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw entered for the seventh inning and faced challenges but managed to get out without allowing a run. The eighth inning, however, proved to be critical. Despite visible signs of struggle, Kershaw was left in to pitch and quickly fell into trouble, yielding a home run and multiple runs due to an error by Max Muncy.

Fans and analysts alike voiced criticism over the decision to keep Kershaw in the game in a tight situation. The change could have potentially been a moment to bring in Scott, had he been available. Comments poured in from frustrated fans, highlighting Roberts’ decisions regarding bullpen management.

The loss leaves the Dodgers looking to bounce back in Game 4. If they cannot secure a victory, the series will return to Philadelphia for a decisive Game 5.
