FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas — Former NBA player Patrick Beverley was arrested on Friday in Fort Bend County, Texas, according to court records.

Beverley, 37, is charged with assault on a family or household member, a third-degree felony that involves impeding breath or circulation. His bond was set at $40,000, which he has posted. Beverley is expected to be released later today.

The incident remains under investigation, and details leading up to the arrest have not been disclosed. Beverley was taken into custody at the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office in Richmond.

During his NBA career, Beverley played for several teams, including the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Philadelphia 76ers, and most recently, the Milwaukee Bucks. He was a second-round draft pick in 2009.

After leaving the NBA last year, Beverley played for Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Israeli Basketball Premier League. However, he was suspended by the team after a controversial incident involving mocking his coach on social media.

Beverley has also faced legal troubles. He was sued by two women following a courtside altercation during his time in Milwaukee, where he reportedly threw a ball that struck a woman during a playoff game.

Last week, Beverley drew criticism for a podcast discussion involving comments made about NBA player Klay Thompson‘s romantic life, which Thompson described as “disgusting and disturbing.”

As the situation develops, more information may be released.
