The Hunger Games Sunrise On The Reaping Trailer

LOS ANGELES, CA — Lionsgate has surprised fans with the release of a teaser trailer and first look images for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, exactly one year before the film’s scheduled release on November 20, 2026.

The film, based on Suzanne Collins‘s latest novel, revisits the world of Panem and follows young Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada, twenty-four years prior to the original The Hunger Games. The story starts on the morning of the reaping for the Fiftieth Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.

Returning director Francis Lawrence is at the helm, with Billy Ray adapting the screenplay. Producing the film are Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson from Color Force, while Cameron MacConomy serves as executive producer. The first five films of the franchise have collectively grossed more than $3.3 billion at the box office.

In its opening week, the book adaptation sold 1.5 million copies across the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. In the U.S. alone, 1.2 million copies sold, doubling the first-week sales of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and tripling that of Mockingjay.

The all-star cast includes Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Ralph Fiennes, Maya Hawke, and Kelvin Harrison Jr., with rising stars like Mckenna Grace and Ben Wang also joining the lineup.

The film has not yet been rated by the Motion Picture Association. Fans can watch the teaser trailer to get a glimpse of the anticipated prequel.
