Indiana Hoosiers Face Gonzaga Bulldogs in Fort Myers Showdown
FORT MYERS, Florida — The Indiana Hoosiers will take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the opening round of the Geico Coconut Hoops tournament on Friday at 1:30 p.m. ET at Alico Arena.
Indiana enters the matchup with an unblemished record of 6-0 in non-conference play. The Hoosiers are averaging 73.2 points per game, outscoring their opponents by an average of 16.2 points. In contrast, Gonzaga has a record of 3-3 in non-conference play and ranks sixth in the West Coast Conference with 25.0 defensive rebounds per game.
Shay Ciezki leads Indiana, scoring 22.0 points and grabbing 5.2 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Lauren Whittaker is the top performer for Gonzaga, averaging 17.0 points and 7.8 rebounds. Allie Turner contributes 14.0 points per game for the Bulldogs.
Indiana most recently defeated FGCU 82-64, showcasing strong performances from guards Lenee Beaumont and Ciezki. Beaumont scored 23 points while Ciezki added 26, both playing crucial roles in leading their team against FGCU.
The matchup marks the first meeting between Indiana and Gonzaga in women’s basketball. Following this game, Indiana could face either Marquette or No. 10 Iowa State in the next round of the tournament on Sunday, Nov. 30.
“We want to keep our momentum going into this tournament,” said Indiana coach Lisa Fortier. “Every game is important, and we need to maintain our focus against Gonzaga.”
