Sony Pulls Free Game After Two-Month Glitch on PlayStation Store
San Mateo, California – Sony has removed the game “Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun” from users’ libraries nearly two months after the game was mistakenly offered for free on the PlayStation Store due to a pricing error.
The glitch occurred on October 17, 2025, when the tactical stealth game was available to download at no cost for around two hours. Normally priced at $40, the game quickly gained attention after players shared details on social media.
Sony confirmed the removal through an email sent to affected users, stating, “We have processed your refund request on 12/23/2025 09:25 PM GMT in the amount of $0.00 for Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun.” Despite no actual charge, ownership of the game has been revoked.
The game, which is set in 17th-century Japan and offers a challenging tactical experience, received mostly positive reviews and is known for its intricate gameplay and engaging story.
Although the error was caught shortly after it occurred, many users continued to enjoy access to the game for almost two months, leading to speculation about why Sony delayed the revocation. Previous pricing errors have typically been corrected within a day or two.
As of now, “Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun” is being offered at a reduced price of $3.99 on the PlayStation Store, presenting a significant discount for those still interested in playing.
This incident marks another instance of Sony dealing with pricing errors on its platform, though the delay in rectifying this particular mistake has caught the attention of many in the gaming community.
