The AFL executive general manager of football, Laura Kane, has put forward a potential shift in the scheduling of home games for West Coast and Fremantle as a means to alleviate the extensive travel demands on the two WA teams.

Discussing the ongoing efforts to enhance competitive balance within the league, Kane highlighted the necessity to address the significant travel challenges faced by the Dockers and Eagles each season as they traverse the country for matches.

Proposing a departure from the traditional fortnightly rotation of home games, the AFL is exploring new strategies to curtail the frequent cross-country flights endured by the West Australian teams.

By potentially revising the scheduling format for home fixtures, the AFL aims to reduce the time spent by West Coast and Fremantle on the road, ultimately providing a more balanced and equitable playing field for all clubs.

This initiative aligns with the league’s broader efforts to optimize competitive fairness and minimize disparities between teams in terms of travel commitments and fatigue management.
