Alex Vesia Leads Dodgers Bullpen to Stellar Performance in NLDS Game 4
In a crucial Game 4 of the National League Division Series (NLDS) against the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Alex Vesia played a pivotal role in the team’s 8-0 victory. Vesia was part of an impressive bullpen performance that saw eight different relievers take the mound without allowing a single run.
Vesia, along with Ryan Brasier, Anthony Banda, Michael Kopech, Evan Phillips, Daniel Hudson, Blake Treinen, and Landon Knack, combined to allow just seven hits and two walks while striking out eight Padres batters. This dominant display was particularly noteworthy given the Padres’ potent lineup, which had been the best in MLB in hits and batting average this season.
Vesia himself had one of the most stressful nights, throwing 30 pitches in his outing. His contribution was highlighted as the Dodgers managed to shut out the Padres for the first time since July 19.
The success of the bullpen was a significant boost for the Dodgers, who have been dealing with injuries to key starters Tyler Glasnow, Gavin Stone, and Clayton Kershaw. Manager Dave Roberts‘ strategic use of the bullpen in Game 4 has set the stage for a decisive Game 5, where Yoshinobu Yamamoto will start for the Dodgers.
Praise for the bullpen’s performance came from the opposing team as well, with Padres’ All-Star Xander Bogaerts acknowledging the relievers’ execution, saying they “came in with that reliever mindset” and “executed perfectly, all of them”.
