Beatles Movie Announcement Cinemacon Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — A star-studded cast was announced Monday at CinemaCon for a new film quadrilogy about The Beatles, set to release in April 2028. The films will uniquely portray the influential band’s key members from their personal perspectives.

Actors Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan, Harris Dickinson, and Joseph Quinn will embody Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, John Lennon, and George Harrison, respectively. Each film will provide an in-depth look at the individual lives of these music legends, showcasing their distinct personalities and artistic contributions.

Director Sir Sam Mendes emphasized the storytelling approach during the announcement. “Each film is told from the particular perspective of just one of the guys,” Mendes stated. “They intersect in different ways — sometimes overlapping, sometimes not. They’re four very different human beings. Perhaps this is a chance to understand them a little more deeply.”

Mescal, known for his roles in “Normal People” and “Gladiator II,” expressed excitement about his interpretation of McCartney, stating, “It’s a daunting task but one I’m thrilled to undertake.” Keoghan, who has made a significant mark in Hollywood with “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “Saltburn,” also expressed his eagerness to embody Starr, noting, “Ringo is such a unique character; I hope to bring that authenticity to the role.” Dickinson and Quinn join them, bringing their rising star power from projects like “Maleficent” and “Stranger Things.”

This new cinematic venture marks the first time all four members of The Beatles and their estates have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film. Mendes called the series the “first bingeable theatrical experience,” emphasizing the need for grand cinematic events to draw audiences into theaters.

The films will depict The Beatles’ journey, highlighting their music and influence on culture. Formed in 1960, The Beatles are the best-selling band of all time and continue to resonate with fans across generations.

Despite the unfortunate passing of Lennon in 1980 and Harrison in 2001, their musical legacy remains strong. The announcement follows the release of ‘Now And Then,’ described as the Beatles’ final song, which topped charts worldwide and drew attention to the enduring impact of their music.

Mendes explained his decision to create a quadrilogy instead of a single film, stating, “The story of the band was too huge to fit into a single movie, and that turning it into a TV mini-series just somehow didn’t feel right.”

The responses from the core cast reflect their commitment to honoring The Beatles’ legacy, with every actor promising to give their role the depth and respect it deserves. This ambitious project not only aims to entertain but also seeks to provide insight into the lives of one of the most transformative bands in music history.
