Atlantic Provinces Roll Out Additional COVID-19 Vaccine Doses for At-Risk Populations

Published

on

In the Atlantic provinces of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, health authorities have announced the commencement of a spring campaign for additional COVID-19 vaccine doses targeting individuals at high risk for severe illness. This initiative aligns with guidance from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) and aims to bolster immunity among vulnerable populations.

Dr. Robert Strang, Nova Scotia’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, emphasized the importance of the spring dose, stressing the need to protect those at highest risk of infection in the ongoing battle against COVID-19. While overall case numbers remain steady in Nova Scotia, health officials are prioritizing proactive measures to safeguard vulnerable individuals.

Starting March 25, eligible individuals in Nova Scotia can secure appointments for their spring vaccine doses, with bookings available online or through a dedicated phone line. Those who qualify for the spring campaign include individuals with specified medical conditions and other high-risk factors outlined by NACI.

Simultaneously, in Prince Edward Island, Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Heather Morrison has echoed similar sentiments, encouraging Islanders at increased risk of severe illness to avail themselves of the COVID-19 booster dose. The Spring booster program in PEI is set to run until May 31, 2024, ensuring timely protection for vulnerable populations.

Health PEI has streamlined the vaccination process, with community pharmacies and health clinics offering convenient appointment scheduling for COVID-19 and influenza vaccines. As the province follows NACI recommendations for booster doses, residents are urged to stay informed and proactive in their vaccination efforts.

For more information on the COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, residents can access official government websites and contact designated healthcare providers for guidance on eligibility and appointments. By adhering to vaccination guidelines, the Atlantic provinces aim to enhance community resilience against the ongoing pandemic.
