Charlotte, North CarolinaCarolina Panthers fans had high hopes for first-round wide receiver Jalen Legette, especially after the team added fellow second-round pick Jalen Coker. However, Legette has struggled to deliver on that promise this season.

In nine games played, Legette has recorded just 181 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Much of his production came in a single game against the New York Jets, where he gained 92 yards from nine catches. This raises concerns about his performance and effectiveness.

Fans are questioning whether head coach Dave Canales is using Legette to his full potential. Coming from South Carolina, doubts surrounded Legette’s ability as a traditional boundary receiver, given his limited college production. Many compared him to former Gamecock Deebo Samuel Sr. but so far, those expectations remain unfulfilled.

The struggles extend beyond Legette. Although he has shown the ability to create separation, quarterback Bryce Young has missed critical throws, contributing to the Panthers’ overall poor passing offense.

As the season progresses, many believe adjustments are necessary. Legette’s style suggests the Panthers could try to get him involved with screens and jet sweeps, yet he has lacked effectiveness in these situations as well. The question remains: if Legette’s snaps are reduced, who will fill the gap?

The team is gradually ramping up other options like Hunter Renfrow and looking forward to David Moore‘s return from injured reserve, but the depth is limited. Despite being midway through Year 2 of his career, the pressure is mounting on Legette as fans compare his performance to others drafted after him, such as Keon Coleman and Ladd McConkey.

While it’s too early to label Legette a bust, his slow start has left many skeptical about Dan Morgan‘s decision in the draft.
