Cleveland Guardians Acquire Pitcher Cobb Ahead of Trade Deadline
The Cleveland Guardians have made a move to strengthen their pitching lineup by acquiring pitcher Cobb from the Giants just ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline. This trade is a strategic decision for Cleveland to bolster the back end of their rotation.
In exchange for Cobb, the Guardians are sending Jacob Bresnahan, a 13th-round pick from this year’s draft, plus a player to be named later. The team confirmed the details of the deal.
Cobb, who is in the final year of his three-year, $28 million contract, has been sidelined this season due to a hip surgery and some arm issues that required cortisone shots. Despite this, he was anticipated to return to the Giants’ rotation over the weekend.
The Guardians expect Cobb to make one more rehab start before officially joining their rotation. He comes with an impressive record, boasting 230 starts in the major leagues, a 77-75 win-loss record, and a career ERA of 3.85.
While the Guardians have one of the best bullpens in baseball, leading the majors in ERA, they have been heavily reliant on their relief pitchers. This is evident as five Cleveland relievers ranked among the top 22 MLB pitchers in appearances going into the previous week, largely due to issues within the rotation.
