Djokovic Set to Face Bergs in Shanghai Masters Quarterfinals

SHANGHAI, China — World No. 4 Novak Djokovic will take on Zizou Bergs in the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 6:30 a.m. ET. This match marks the first time Djokovic and the 26-year-old Bergs will meet on the court.
Bergs, a rising Belgian player, earned his spot in the quarterfinals by defeating three ranked opponents. His latest victory was a dramatic win over 6’8” Canadian Gabriel Diallo, where he overcame an opening set deficit and saved two match points to secure his place in the last eight.
Djokovic, 38, advanced after a tough match against Jaume Munar, winning 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. He required medical attention following the second set due to the hot and humid conditions but bounced back in the third. Djokovic’s wins at this tournament mark his journey toward a record-extending 41st ATP Masters title.
After losing the second set, Djokovic expressed the physical challenge of the match on social media, saying, “Tough day at the office. Very challenging physically.” Notably, this victory makes Djokovic the oldest man to reach the quarterfinals at an ATP Masters 1000 event, surpassing Roger Federer’s age milestone from 2019.
The match between Djokovic and Bergs will take place at Qi Zhong Stadium. The winner is set to meet either Holger Rune or Valentin Vacherot in the semifinals. Djokovic’s overall win-loss record for the year stands at 34-10.
