Duke Pursues Top Recruit Amid Major Transfers in College Basketball

Durham, N.C. – Duke University‘s men’s basketball program is solidifying its dominance in college basketball recruiting with the addition of four signees, positioning the Blue Devils with the nation’s top recruiting class. However, one key player remains on their radar: four-star recruit Ament, who is ranked No. 4 nationally.
The Blue Devils have been actively recruiting Ament for over a year, extending a scholarship offer during the Fall of his junior year. Initially, it appeared he might commit to another program, but Ament opted to delay his decision to keep his options open, drawing interest from several coaching staffs throughout his senior year at Highland School.
As the McDonald’s All-American Game approaches, speculation intensified that Ament would announce his college choice. However, he has postponed this announcement and has yet to set a firm date for his commitment.
In other recruitment news, a pivotal development occurred for Ole Miss as the men’s basketball program received its first commitment from the transfer portal, announcing that power forward Dia will return for a second season under Coach Chris Beard. Dia made his announcement on social media, expressing excitement about his decision.
“After an incredible run to the Sweet 16 this past season, I’ve taken time to reflect on my journey, my growth, and my future,” Dia stated. “With that in mind, I’m excited to announce that I will be returning to Ole Miss for another year under Coach Beard to run it back with my brothers.”
Dia, who averaged 10.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, played a significant role in Ole Miss’s successful season that culminated in a second Sweet 16 appearance for the program.
“We have unfinished business. This team, this program, and Rebel Nation deserve a shot at a national championship,” Dia added. “I believe we have what it takes to make that dream a reality.”
Despite previous speculation regarding testing the NBA Draft waters, Dia is committed to contributing to the team’s future. “If (Beard) is going to build this program, I’m right there with him,” he said after a tough season-ending loss.
Last season, Dia was among the program’s key performers, known for his consistent scoring and rebounding abilities. He also contributed 29 three-pointers, demonstrating versatility in his gameplay.
“We’ve done an unbelievable job changing the direction of Ole Miss basketball,” Dia said regarding the team’s momentum. “Not just Coach Beard, but these players.”
In addition to the ongoing recruitment efforts, Fishers, Indiana quarterback Walker is set to announce his college commitment on April 19. With options narrowed down to Virginia and another program, Walker visited both schools unofficially this week, signaling his intentions to make a decision soon.
The transfer portal continues to play a crucial role in shaping college basketball rosters as teams enhance their competitiveness for the upcoming season. Coverage on offseason developments and recruiting efforts will remain a focus for 247Sports.
