Detroit Lions Lock Up Amon-Ra St. Brown with Record-Breaking Contract Extension
The Detroit Lions have made a significant move ahead of the upcoming season by securing wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown with a record-breaking contract extension. The talented player has agreed to a lucrative four-year deal worth over $120 million, with an impressive $77 million guaranteed.
Reports indicate that St. Brown’s new contract now makes him the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, surpassing the previous record set by Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins. His average annual value surpasses $30 million, with guaranteed money exceeding the $75 million mark set by Cooper Kupp of the Los Angeles Rams.
A product of USC and a former fourth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, St. Brown has quickly emerged as a star for the Lions. He made an instant impact in his rookie year with 90 receptions for 912 yards, followed by two consecutive 1,000-yard Pro Bowl seasons in 2022 and 2023. Last season, St. Brown showcased his prowess with 119 receptions, 1,515 yards, and 10 touchdowns, earning him the prestigious First-team All-Pro recognition.
The Lions’ blossoming young offensive core, featuring talents like running back Jahmyr Gibbs and tight end Sam LaPorta, has now solidified its foundation with St. Brown’s extension. This move comes amidst a wave of lucrative receiver contracts in the league, with DeVonta Smith of the Philadelphia Eagles receiving a massive deal recently. St. Brown’s proactive extension positions him favorably among other upcoming negotiations involving top-tier wideouts like Justin Jefferson and CeeDee Lamb.
