Investigation Reveals Misleading Social Media Post by Labour Party’s Peter Obi Supporter
An investigation into a social media post by a supporter of the Labour Party‘s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has uncovered misleading information aimed at deceiving the public, according to AFP Fact Checkers.
The supporter, known as Ejikeme on X.com, shared photos alleging the current state of a public school in Lagos, but the images were found to be outdated, dating back to 2017 and 2019.
The claimed school, Eric Moore Junior High School in Surulere, showcased in the post has since been renovated by the Lagos state government, refuting the misleading narrative.
One of the images used in the post even depicted an unrelated building, further adding to the misinformation.
The post on X.com, garnering over 1,400 shares and comments since its publication on April 26, 2024, featured four pictures showing students in various settings within the school premises.
Comments under the post indicated that many individuals believed the misleading claim, expressing disappointment at the alleged state of the school.
Ejikeme, the user behind the post, has a history of sharing content in support of the Igbo ethnic group and Peter Obi, often posting about run-down schools in Lagos in response to trending topics like #TinubuLagosSchoolSeries.
