Candidates Nominations Open for Cork County Council Local Elections
The Cork County Council has announced the commencement of the nomination process for candidates running in the upcoming local elections across various local electoral areas.
These include Bandon-Kinsale, Bantry-West Cork, Carrigaline, Cobh, Fermoy, Kanturk, Macroom, Midleton, Mallow, and Skibbereen-West Cork, each with a specified number of seats available for contestation.
Individuals interested in standing as candidates can obtain nomination papers at the Council’s office during regular office hours.
Prospective candidates have the option to self-nominate or be nominated by a proposer who is a registered local government elector in the corresponding local electoral area.
For candidates affiliated with a political party, a certificate of political affiliation must be provided along with the nomination paper.
The deadline for submitting nominations is set for 12 noon on May 18, 2024.
Nomination papers can be hand-delivered to the Council’s office by the candidate or their proposer starting from 10am on May 11, 2024 until the deadline.
The Returning Officer, Maurice Manning, will be available to receive nominations on specific dates and times as mandated by law.
In the event of a contested election, a polling day is scheduled for June 7, 2024, with voting hours from 7.00 am to 10.00 pm.
