Mumbai Street Food Stall Incident: Shawarma Consumption Leads to Tragic Death of 19-Year-Old
In a tragic turn of events, a 19-year-old individual, Prathamesh Bhokse, faced an untimely death after consuming chicken shawarma from a street food stall located in Trombay, Mumbai. This distressing incident has shaken the local community and raised concerns about food safety.
The Mumbai police swiftly took action and apprehended the food vendors responsible for the stall where Prathamesh Bhokse purchased the shawarma. The arrested vendors have been identified as Anand Kamble and Mohammad Ahmed Raiza Shaikh.
Following the fatality, the police have formally registered a case against the vendors under sections 304 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Samples from the food stall have been sent for testing to ascertain the exact cause of the poisoning that led to Prathamesh Bhokse’s demise.
Prathamesh Bhokse, along with his uncle Hameed Abbas Syed, both residents of Maharashtra Nagar, indulged in the street food on May 3. Soon after consuming the shawarma, Bhokse began experiencing severe stomach pain and vomiting. His family rushed him to a nearby hospital, but his condition continued to deteriorate.
Senior inspector Rajesh Shinde shared details of the timeline, stating, «After eating the shawarma, he had stomach pain and started vomiting. His family took him to a municipal hospital and got medicine, but his health did not improve till late afternoon of May 5 after which he was taken to KEM Hospital. He was treated and sent home, but on Sunday, his health deteriorated, and he was again admitted to KEM, where he died on Monday.»
